Write for SelfieCompetition

We publish practical guides on smartphone photography, camera gear, posing and social media. If you know a topic well and can explain it clearly, we'd like to read your pitch.

Who reads SelfieCompetition

Most people who land on our site are on their phone, standing somewhere with decent light and a half-formed idea of the photo they want. They aren't professional photographers. They're students, travelers, creators, couples, small business owners and people who simply want to look better in the pictures they share. Our traffic comes mainly from India, the UK and the US, and it skews toward readers who like to try things for themselves.

That tells you a lot about what works here. Readers want advice they can use in the next five minutes: where to stand, which setting to switch on, how to hold the phone, what to do with their hands. Long theory about sensor sizes rarely survives the scroll. A clear example, a before-and-after comparison and an honest note about what didn't work will do far more for you than a list of specifications.

If you've ever explained a photography trick to a friend and watched them get it right on the second try, you already know how we want articles to read.

What you get from a guest post

We keep the deal simple, and we'd rather you know exactly what to expect before you spend hours on a draft.

  • A relevant audience

Your article sits in front of readers who are already interested in photography, gadgets, aesthetics and social media. If your own site or channel covers a similar subject, that overlap is useful.

  • A contextual do-follow link

Inside the body of your article you can link to one or two relevant resources, your own website included, as long as the link genuinely helps the reader. A link placed naturally in a good article carries more weight than one dropped into a weak one.

  • Quick, clear editing

We review submissions quickly and tell you plainly what needs to change. Well-formatted drafts that follow the guidelines below move through our review fast and get published without a long wait.

Topics we want to publish

These are the four areas we cover most. Within each one, the more specific and personal your angle, the better.

📸 Smartphone and camera photography

Tutorials on portrait mode, natural light, window light, golden hour, framing, composition and camera settings. We like posts that show a problem and then fix it, such as why indoor photos look yellow or how to stop faces looking flat.

Example: "How to shoot a clean selfie in a room with bad lighting."

💻 Tech and gadget reviews

Hands-on reviews of smartphones, lenses, ring lights, tripods, gimbals and other accessories. Tell us what you actually used, for how long, and what annoyed you. Reviews that read like a repackaged spec sheet won't be accepted.

Example: "Three budget ring lights compared after a month of daily use."

✨ Fashion, lifestyle and posing

Posing guides for individuals, couples and groups, mirror selfie ideas, styling for photoshoots and grooming basics. Clear instructions matter more than a long list, so explain how to get into each pose and what to avoid.

Example: "Natural couple poses that don't look stiff on camera."

📱 Social media strategies

Instagram aesthetics, short-video editing, CapCut tutorials, profile photo advice and creator tips. Posts based on things you've tested yourself, with real results, will always beat general advice everyone has already read.

Example: "A simple CapCut workflow for turning photos into reels."

Content guidelines

These rules protect our readers and keep the site in good standing with search engines. They aren't meant to be difficult, and most good writers meet them without thinking about it.

Length
At least 1,000 words of useful, specific content. Longer is fine when the topic needs it. Short posts stretched with filler are not.
Originality
The article must be written by you, from your own knowledge, and must not be published anywhere else. We check every draft for plagiarism and AI-generated text, and drafts that fail are rejected without a rewrite request.
Images
Include at least two relevant images. Original photos are best. Royalty-free images are accepted if you tell us the source. Please supply them as WebP files, or in a format we can convert, with a short alt text for each.
Formatting
Use clear H2 and H3 headings, short paragraphs and bullet points where they help. Break up long stretches of text. Write for someone reading on a phone.
Links
A maximum of two external do-follow links, pointing to relevant, non-spammy pages. We don't accept links to casino, gambling, CBD, adult or similar sites. We may add nofollow to any link that doesn't meet our standards.
Tone
Friendly, direct and practical. Write the way you'd talk someone through the steps in person. Avoid hard-sell language and promotional claims.

We will also decline press-release style content, thinly disguised advertising, scraped or spun text, and articles whose only purpose is to carry a link. If it wouldn't be useful without the link, it won't be published with it.

How to write a pitch we'll say yes to

You don't have to send a finished article. In fact, we'd prefer a short pitch first, because it saves you from writing something we can't use. A good pitch fits in a few short paragraphs and includes the following:

  • A working title that says what the reader will be able to do after reading.
  • Your angle in two or three sentences. What's different about your approach, and why should our readers trust it?
  • A rough outline with the main headings you plan to use.
  • The link you'd like to include and where in the article it would naturally appear.
  • Examples of your writing, such as a link to a published article or your own blog.

Before you send it, search our site to make sure we haven't already covered the topic. If we have, don't worry. Tell us what you'd add or do differently, and we'll consider an updated take.

Frequently asked questions

What topics do you accept for guest posts?

We accept articles on smartphone photography, camera and gadget reviews, photo editing tutorials, social media lifestyle, and posing guides. If your idea sits close to one of these but isn't a perfect fit, send it anyway and tell us the angle. We'd rather talk about a good idea than turn it away on a technicality.

Are do-follow links allowed in guest posts?

Yes. You can include one or two relevant, do-follow contextual links to quality websites inside the body of the article. The links need to help the reader, not just the sender. Links to casino, CBD, adult or similar sites are not accepted.

How long should the guest post be?

A minimum of 1,000 words. Most of the posts that do well here run between 1,200 and 1,800 words, because that's the space it usually takes to explain a technique properly, with examples. Don't pad a short idea to hit a number, though. Pick a bigger topic instead.

Can I use AI tools to write my draft?

We expect every submission to be written by a person, from your own experience. Using a tool to fix grammar is fine. Submitting a draft generated from a prompt is not, and we review drafts with detection tools before anything goes live.

How long does it take to hear back?

We usually reply within 24 to 48 hours. If your pitch is accepted, we'll tell you what to adjust, if anything, and you can send the full draft. Once the final version is approved, publishing is quick.

Do you charge for guest posts?

No. We don't charge to review or publish a guest post, and we don't pay for them either. Contributors write for the exposure and the contextual link, and we only publish work that we think is good for our readers.

Looking for a place to guest post?

If you landed here after searching for a photography or lifestyle blog that accepts contributors, you're in the right place. These are the kinds of searches that usually bring writers to us, and every one of them is a topic we're open to:

  • Write for Us "Photography"
  • Guest Post "Lifestyle"
  • "write for us" + photography
  • "write for us" + camera
  • "write for us" + smartphone photography
  • "write for us" + technology gadgets
  • "write for us" + social media

  • tech blog "write for us"
  • "become a contributor" photography

Whichever phrase you used, the next step is the same. Send us your topic idea at help@selfiecompetition.in, and tell us which category your article belongs to.
